Inspiration

longtime residents MaryLou and Tom enjoy David play Shubert and Chopin

Costs - approximately $1400 for one table

Ping Pong is a fun activity for young and old, requires minimal equipment, has obvious health advantages and can be an attractive sculptural addition to a space. Many cities in the US are installing pingpong tables in public spaces, including New York, State College PA, Winnetka IL, Philadelphia, San Antonio TX, and more

regulation table size, probably red top, base design TBD

potential sites - Jocelyn Park, Wooster Memorial, Lenzi Parks

prefabricated tables run from 5000$ to 10,000$

local concrete contractors are experienced with many beautiful designs for residential and commercial uses

a local contractor has provided an estimate of 1200$ (potentially less for multiple)

a stainless steel net will have to be purchased or produced, estimated at $100

Next steps

  1. get NPIP funding approval!

  2. secure Parks Commission approval

  3. work with Parks Department landscape architect to site the table and provide specs for competitive bidding process

  4. develop library paddle lending program?

  5. build it and they will come

"The tables, which we expect to last at least 20 years, have given the community an additional inexpensive outdoor activity that is used by residents of all ages, including our disabled population"

"Ping-pong might not change the world, but it sure can give our community a point of intersection that it didn’t have before."
